What is Triple P?

.

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program® is one of the world’s most effective parenting programs.

It is one of the few based on evidence from ongoing scientific research. There have been more than 200 evaluation papers, including 104 randomised controlled studies, showing that Triple P works for most families in a variety of cultures, countries and family situations.

Triple P works by giving parents the skills to raise confident, healthy children and teenagers, and to build stronger family relationships. It also helps parents manage misbehaviour and prevent problems occurring in the first place.

But it doesn’t tell people how to parent. Rather, it gives them simple and practical strategies they can adapt to suit their own values, beliefs and needs.

Triple P is also different because it is not ‘one size-fits-all’. It’s a system that offers increasing levels of support to meet parents’ different needs. So parents can choose anything from one-off public seminars or self-help books to more detailed group courses or individual sessions. You can go to the  Triple P website to figure out which is the best program for your needs.

Triple P is now used in 25 countries including the USA, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Iran, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, Curacao, Switzerland and Romania. It has been translated from English into 19 other languages.

Looking for flexibility?

Triple P Online offers you the ability to do Triple P at home. You can do the 2 to 12 years programme, or the Teen programme online.

Penrith Community Health (phone 1800 222608) also offers Triple P in the evening, twice per year.

At NCNS we can offer flexibility to attend Triple P group (2 to 12, or Teen). If a couple are wanting to do a Triple P course but cannot get time off work to do all of the sessions, Triple P provider, Narelle Smith, is happy for the couple to attend the course as a tag-team, as long as one of the partners has attended the first session.

If you are attending a Triple P course, your partner is welcome to attend any or all sessions with you.

Anyone who has completed a Triple P  course is welcome to attend any one of the current Triple P sessions to refresh their skills and knowledge. Just let Narelle know what you are looking for by emailing Parenting@nepeancommunity.org.au.

“Triple P is going well.  Our house is so much quieter than it used to be :). Had such a beautiful moment … my eldest son said to his dad “Mum, she does discipline us, she is just much nicer about it. She talks to us nicer and we respond better, it’s what she learnt at Triple P.” I had tears of joy in my eyes, thank you so very much! My two boys are more responsible, more positive towards each other, are learning new skills and are allowed to do more things now that I have more consistent boundaries in place. They both appreciate and respect the logical consequence system. My eldest boy with ADHD is rarely in time-out or quiet time and true meltdowns are rare now too.”
