On Thursday, 13 February 2014, around 170 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people came together for Apology Day at Muru Mittigar.
The Apology to Australia’s Aboriginal Peoples was delivered by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on February 13, 2008, and acknowledged in particular the Stolen Generations. The significance of the Apology is enormous – for many the Apology represented a public admission of the governments responsibility for the trauma, loss and separation from family, community, culture and land that the Stolen Generations have experienced, and represents an important stage of the journey of healing.
At Muru Mittigar everyone was welcomed to the land by Uncle Greg, offered a smoking ceremony by Uncle Wes and listening to stories past and present from Local Elders and community members.
